In response
to new safety regulations, a manufacturer of riding lawn mowers
needed to quickly develop a unique manual switch that could
temporarily enable and then disable the vehicle’s ability to mow
while in reverse. The switch needed to be tamper-resistant and
survive the physical abuse of a riding lawn mower.

Cherry developed a custom
no-mow-in-reverse switch with a unique key switch/tumbler
mechanism and an anti-tamper circuit. Cherry designed a circuit
protection scheme for the high-current environment of a riding
lawn mower and built a rugged housing which was resistant to
impact and vibration. First functional prototypes were delivered
in 3 weeks, enabling the customer to meet an extremely tight
development timeline.

For this custom solution, Cherry
employed the following capabilities:
• Rapid prototyping, including the use
of in-house SLA
• Experience with the development of
protection circuit and key switches
